What do you love most about your profession? Why did you choose this career?
That I get to spend much of my time in Nature, coastal areas specifically. That I am constantly learning expanding, growing and meeting new and fascinating people in the world.
When did you realize you wanted to work in STEM or Skilled Trades?
I have always loved the natural sciences. It likely was born out of my childhood which was spent much of the time outdoors and at the lake.
Why do we need more women in STEM and Skilled Trades?
Without feminine guidance, science, and technology, the world as a whole, is out of balance. We need more young brave female scientists to ask those questions that have never been asked before to provide a more well-rounded future for the earth.
What does your typical workday involve? Can you work remotely? (indoors/outdoors, office/plant, travel time, teamwork/solo work)?
First thing in the morning, I spend time drinking coffee and daydreaming about things I intend to do with my day, week, month, and year. That is proceeded by research writing, reading, and digital communications. Sometimes the odd meeting. Yoga at noon followed by more reading and writing followed by meditation and/or a short walk/hike. My evenings are with my kids - who are the most amazing people I know.
Who is your role model? What is it about this person that inspires you?
Rachel Carson. Because she allowed her heart, her qualitative observations, allowed her story to flow through her books as a way to warn us of our follies post-Second World War. She was advanced in her observations and guided by compassion for humanity. Even when the world was not ready she dared to share her wisdom and knowledge. Jane Goodall is a close second.
What do you do for fun? What are some of your hobbies/activities?
I used to love rock climbing and surfing for the Ph.D. But now it is paper and textile prints. Hiking, running and yoga. Spending time with my kids is the most fun!
What superhero do you relate to most?
Wonder Woman. Because she still saw the beauty in humans even when they were causing war and destruction.
