Get To Know Me

What do you love most about your profession? Why did you choose this career?

The knowledge of designing an efficient sewage or water treatment system to minimize our environmental impact and ensuring public safety.

When did you realize you wanted to work in STEM or Skilled Trades?

I had a hard time figuring out what to go into for university. My mom is a nurse and my dad was an engineer and changed to become a high school teacher. I almost went into the healthcare field, but I realized my brain worked more like my dad's, so I applied to engineering.

Why do we need more women in STEM and Skilled Trades?

Women are truly a different breed than men. We think a little differently, and in my opinion the best teams are group that have both men and women in them.

How do you think the school you went to influenced your career?

High School: In the order of most favourite to least: Chemistry, math, dance, and physics and biology. My high school had a performing arts program and I did enjoy the break that dance gave from the maths and sciences. University: Ancient Rome, Bioremediation, Wastewater treatment, mass transportation

What does your typical workday involve? Can you work remotely? (indoors/outdoors, office/plant, travel time, teamwork/solo work)?

Looking at maps, reading regulations, and performing calculations to design sewage or water treatment systems for small to medium sized systems. Each project usually starts out with at least one field visit where I perform some or all of the following tasks: - inspect the existing on-site wells or septic systems - conduct a topographical survey - collect water samples - Interview client to get more information needed for the design of their water or wastewater system Travel includes all around Ontario, have been as far west as Brampton, as far east as Prince Edward County, and as far north as Parry Sound.

Who is your role model? What is it about this person that inspires you?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex and Greta Thunberg. They are both strong females that stood up for what they believe in and put the work in to get it done.

What do you do for fun? What are some of your hobbies/activities?

During Covid-19, I've been doing a lot of baking, cooking and reading. I enjoy hiking and playing board games as well.
