What do you love most about your profession? Why did you choose this career?
I love that I have the privilege to work with brilliant individuals, where I get the opportunity to learn something new every day. I chose to pursue engineering due to my interest in math, science and problem-solving.
When did you realize you wanted to work in STEM or Skilled Trades?
I realized I wanted to work in STEM after completing the Techsploration Program in 2015. This program opened my eyes to career opportunities, such as Engineering, which I never would have considered before.
How do you think the school you went to influenced your career?
I attended the Memorial University of Newfoundland and completed a Bachelor of Process Engineering. This degree is a Co-op program, which enabled me to complete work terms in fields of interest. These work terms provided excellent work experience and influenced my career as these placements greatly developed my professional skills.
What does your typical workday involve? Can you work remotely? (indoors/outdoors, office/plant, travel time, teamwork/solo work)?
I work offshore on the Hibernia platform, therefore my typical workday involves a mixture of working in an office and out in the plant. Currently, most of my duties revolve around teamwork, but I also have the opportunity to complete solo tasks as well.
Who is your role model? What is it about this person that inspires you?
My grandmother. She always faced any obstacles with a positive attitude and never gave up on a challenge.
What do you do for fun? What are some of your hobbies/activities?
I like doing anything that keeps me active, such as sports, the gym, hiking or spin class. I also enjoy reading and spending time with friends and family!
