What do you love most about your profession? Why did you choose this career?
I love getting to connect with students and help them find their potential calling. Nothing is better than knowing my work has helped students engage in new potential careers that they would not have known about otherwise.
When did you realize you wanted to work in STEM or Skilled Trades?
I competed with Skills Canada NL myself when I was a student! I competed in the photography competition for five years before beginning my time working for Skills Canada NL.
Why do we need more women in STEM and Skilled Trades?
Women provide a diverse perspective and set of experiences that have been lacking in these industries for years. It's time to let more women into careers in STEM and Skilled Trades.
What does your typical workday involve? Can you work remotely? (indoors/outdoors, office/plant, travel time, teamwork/solo work)?
I am currently working from home during the pandemic. Typically my days are spent brainstorming, creating, and producing new content for youth across the province to benefit from. This content revolves around the promotion of Skills Trades and Technologies and showing students that these jobs are a possibility for them.
Who is your role model? What is it about this person that inspires you?
All of my amazing coworkers at Skills Canada NL inspire me each day to grow, improve and keep doing my best at work. I would not be able to succeed without all of their constant support.
What do you do for fun? What are some of your hobbies/activities?
I play soccer, I love to draw and do photography, and I play a lot of Stardew Valley!
What advice would you give students who might be considering a career like yours? What advice would you have given your younger self?
Find what you love and don't stop pursuing it!
