Get To Know Me

What do you love most about your profession? Why did you choose this career?

I went into this career kind of by fluke in not knowing which direction to go after high school and was looking at which post secondary options would keep me active and have multiple directions you could go after completion. This is now the thing I love most about my profession is that there is so many different areas of interest to work in and depending on the level of activeness you are looking for there is something to fit it.

When did you realize you wanted to work in STEM or Skilled Trades?

I have always enjoyed Math and Science in school since a young age, in math and science there is a correct answer, process or pattern to follow and this came easier to me than the English and Arts course.

How do you think the school you went to influenced your career?

I was lucky that in Corner Brook both my Junior High and High School offered some sort of skilled trades elective to take. This included wood working, electronics, plumbing etc which was a amazing change from learning in a class room setting and allowed me to learn hands on. Which for a hype active student was a very welcomed change.

What was the best advice you have been given?

Don't be afraid to ask a question. You don't know what you don't know, until you know it.

What does your typical workday involve? Can you work remotely? (indoors/outdoors, office/plant, travel time, teamwork/solo work)?

Currently my typical workday can involve so many different things, depending on the day, week or time of year. From in the office on the phone and sending emails all day, on multiple construction sites and traveling across the province, to attending conferences and giving technical presentations.

What do you do for fun? What are some of your hobbies/activities?

In my personal time I enjoy spending it outdoors with my dog. Hiking, running, paddle boarding, skiing and swimming.

What advice would you give students who might be considering a career like yours? What advice would you have given your younger self?

The only thing worse than making the wrong decision, is making no decision at all, or having someone else make the decision for you.

What advice would you give to your younger self when looking at career options?

The only thing worse than making the wrong decision, is making no decision at all, or having someone else make the decision for you.
